What will we be fishing for?

During our trip we will be fishing primarily for salmon, walleye and trout.

Where is the location?

The Finlander II slip is located at Waterfront Plaza Marina - 325 South Lake Ave Slip 17, across the harbor from the William A Irvin Museum (the large red vessel, if you’re not familiar with the area).

Do you have a recommendation for a hotel?

Superior Marine Charters has a partnership with The Suites Hotel in Duluth. The hotel is conveniently located right behind the Finlander II slip, right in the heart of Canal Park. If you let them know you have booked a charter with me, they will provide a 30% discount Sunday-Thursday nights, and 20% discount for Friday and Saturday nights.

Where should we park?

We recommend entering at the Red Lobster parking lot entrance off of W Railroad St and then continuing down to the Southern part of the parking lot. The Finlander II slip (#17) is shown below with a yellow star.

Are there bathrooms?

The Finlander II has a small bathroom on board.

What licenses are required?

You will need to purchase a Minnesota Fishing License and Trout Stamp, or a 24 hour license, (which includes trout endorsement).

Anglers 65 and over do not need a trout stamp & children 15 and under do not need a license.

What should we bring?

  • warm clothing (layered in case the sun comes out)

  • hats & sunglasses

  • sunscreen

  • food and beverages (alcoholic beverages are allowed, but please use in moderation)

  • cooler for transporting your fish home (we filet and bag your fish for you)

  • your sense of adventure

What shouldn’t we bring?

  • rods, reels, bait, tackle

Is it choppy on the water?

Lake Superior is very unpredictable, it can be glass smooth in the morning and then choppier with rolling waves by the afternoon. A little bit of a wave improves fishing conditions! If you are prone to motion sickness, you may want to prepare in advance. There are a number of different products that are designed to help that can be purchased before your trip. If you have any questions, please reach out.

What is the Cancellation & Payment Policy?

A $99 payment is due at time of booking (but you can also pay the full amount). Superior Marine Charters will retain the $99 deposit if you cancel 2 weeks prior (or less) to the charter date or fail to show.

If the captain cancels due to bad weather conditions we try to reschedule you if possible. If rescheduling is not possible, you will not be charged the deposit fee.

What is the Aerial Lift Bridge schedule?

The Aerial Lift Bridge lifts on the hour and on the half hour. We need time to get off the dock and out to the bridge to catch a lift. Be at the dock at least 15 minutes before the lift. If you are late and we can't make it, time will not be added at the end of the trip.

Now is not a good time to go fishing…
